England 1 Sweden 0: Rodwell and Jones do Capello proud as Young Lions break 43-year jinx

How they rated

Joe Hart: 6/10

Hardly called upon in the first half-hour but did well to tip Rasmus Elm’s wicked inswinging corner on to the post with his first test. Showed a few jitters at the end of the half. It’s now 16 England games and counting without a defeat.

Kyle Walker: 7/10

Preferred to in-form Micah Richards in Capello’s squad and did his chances of staying ahead no harm at all. Linked up well with Theo Walcott down the right and caused Sweden problems in the attacking third.

Gary Cahil: 7/10

Starting to look every inch an international defender. Could benefit from Rio Ferdinand’s uncertain future. Keeping Zlatan Ibrahimovic and former Bolton team-mate Johan Elmander quiet will only help his Euro chances.

Hitting the heights: Gary Cahill provides an attacking threat

John Terry: 6/10

Subjected to a few pantomime boos before kick-off but it was water off a duck’s back for the skipper. Was his usual commanding self in the heart of England’s back four and he will be happy with his night’s work.

Leighton Baines: 6/10

Knows he is playing second fiddle to Ashley Cole but is always a capable eputy. Got up and down the left-hand side well to support Downing when possible. His delivery is always a threat and has a calming influence.
