Captain for a day? Capello could opt to make Gareth Barry his captain if he decides not to include John Terry in his squad
Even the selection of a new captain would be difficult for Capello. With Steven Gerrard already ruled out through injury and Ferdinand also a doubt, there is no obvious choice in Terry’s absence.
In the short term, Capello might consider Gareth Barry or Scott Parker for these two games.
But, if Terry does end up losing the captaincy, identifying his successor could be far more difficult given how frequently Gerrard and Ferdinand are injured these days.
As things stand, the England manager would probably opt for keeping Terry in his squad, arguing that the FA will still have time to strip him of the captaincy before Euro 2012 should he be found guilty.
