Fabio Capello will wait until the last possible minute before deciding whether to include John Terry in his squad for this month’s friendlies against Spain and Sweden.
The England manager will include his captain in the provisional group he selects today and Sportsmail understands he is of the view that a man is innocent until proven guilty.
For that reason Capello would consider it extremely harsh to remove him from his plans for a showcase encounter with the world champions at Wembley — especially when it will put down such an important marker for next summer’s European Championship and when the defender has expressed such a strong desire to play.
Centre of attention: Terry's troubles have given England manager Capello a headache
But the Italian also recognises the seriousness of the situation, with Terry being the subject of a formal Metropolitan Police investigation as well as an FA inquiry.
While Capello wants to believe Terry is telling the truth when he insists he did not racially abuse Anton Ferdinand at Loftus Road on October 23, he knows it is up to the police and the FA to consider all the evidence before reaching a conclusion.
On Wednesday Sky provided both sets of investigators with all the video evidence they have available, and the police intend to interview all the players from Chelsea and QPR who were in the vicinity when the alleged incident occurred.
They are thought to be Paddy Kenny, Clint Hill, Fitz Hall, Branislav Ivanovic and Ashley Cole as well as Terry and Ferdinand.
