Germany’s style is different to Spain’s but both teams seem to possess countless options when in possession of the ball.

Those looking for comfort will perhaps find a flicker at the heart of Germany’s back four. Centre backs Holger Badstuber and Mats Hummels are gifted technicians for defenders but they are not the quickest and at times both Holland and Denmark made them look a bit uncomfortable.

‘They didn’t lose many balls going forward but we felt we had a chance against their defence,’ reflected Agger. ‘Germany definitely will be up there, though.’
