Denmark’s Liverpool defender Daniel Agger said after facing them on Sunday: ‘Germany are definitely the best team with the ball we’ve played. They’re so strong, so good going forward.

‘Their three forwards are the key. They’re changing sides and always moving and running. Mario Gomez is a handful up front but only because he has great players behind him.

‘If you can close down Mesut Ozil and the players behind the strikers who are feeding them, you win the first game. You come a long way but you can see they are attacking with the full backs as well.

‘Sometimes you just have to put your hand up and say we played a good team.’
