Man for the job: Sheringham thinks England are much better off under Hodgson
The former West Brom manager took over the national reins from Fabio Capello, who endured a rocky spell as Three Lions manager between 2008 and 2012, and Sheringham believes that building a strong team spirit in the camp is key to how far England can go.
Sheringham added: ‘We’ve definitely got a better chance now than we had under Capello – where we were in disarray. If Roy Hodgson can get in there and get a nice camaraderie between the players I think we have a chance.
‘I still think we have some of the best players in the world. Of course not everyone’s world class but if the players can gel as a team and Roy can get them playing together and along the same lines then they’ve got a chance.’
Meanwhile, the ex-Manchester United and Tottenham striker talked up Alan Pardew’s chances of one day leading the Three Lions – despite the Newcastle boss quickly ruling himself out of the running to replace Capello in February.
