Struggling for form: Zamora has scored just twice for QPR
‘So if you’re picking strikers you’ve got to have people who can hold the ball up in the opposition half and for me the best player that can do that is Bobby Zamora.
‘I know he has not had the best end of the seasons but he does an Emile Heskey-type job for England - and he can score goals as well.
‘He is good in the air and he is very capable playing in an England team and would be good alongside Wayne Rooney in the latter stages. Roy Hodgson would know how to get the best out of him too.’
Sheringham, who scored 11 goals in 50 international games between 1993 and 2002, also claimed that England’s chances of success in Poland and Ukraine this summer have been greatly improved by the arrival of Hodgson.
