Wembley way: Hodgson was unveiled at the national stadium on Tuesday afternoon
One intriguing possibility is that he recruits former England striker Alan Shearer as an assistant.
Match of the Day pundit Shearer, who makes no secret about his desire to leave the TV couch to return to coaching after a brief caretaker role at Newcastle, has a close relationship with Hodgson. There were discussions about the record-breaking goalscorer joining Hodgson at Liverpool.
And Shearer, as one of England's iconic footballers, would be a good foil to technical expert Hodgson in galvanising a set of players not necessarily inspired by his arrival.
Hodgson, who will remain West Brom's manager until the end of the season, said: 'I was asked what I would like in terms of staffing - I was able to give a rough outline. But there are lots of things I'm going to have to learn about the staff before I can make decisions. It would be my intention to bring at least one person into the organisation.'
