It's Redknapp v Mourinho! Two in the frame for England job
Stuart Pearce: took caretaker charge of England for Holland friendly

Whether he or Redknapp win the recommendation on the shortlist due to be presented to the FA board this month is down to the FA's Club England group.

The Gang of Four - FA chairman David Bernstein, general secretary Alex Horne, director of football development Trevor Brooking and Adrian Bevington, the group's managing director - have said little about their search.

There have been reports that Brooking and Redknapp do not see eye to eye but Horne said: 'Trevor has never expressed a personal reservation about any of the candidates.'

Horne also denied the FA were unsettling clubs by not taking immediate steps to appoint a new manager.

Bernstein has suggested that, at the very least, Club England need more than one option to strengthen their negotiating position.

They also need an alternative to Redknapp in case Tottenham persuade him to stay at White Hart Lane, while Barcelona's Pep Guardiola effectively ruled himself out by declaring that national teams should be run by native managers.
