Hodgson under French attack! Blanc wades into Rio row and Wenger warns England over opener

'He's going to follow them from somewhere else and, as a family and a community, we're going to do that.'

Hodgson has yet to comment on selecting Kelly ahead of Ferdinand, and FA chairman David Bernstein has refused to discuss it publicly until after the tournament.

Wenger, meanwhile, fears the worst for England against France on Monday without Wayne Rooney, who is suspended for the first two games.

'That is a game you cannot afford to lose,' said the Arsenal manager. 'Why? Not because you cannot catch up but the pressure inside the country becomes tremendous.

'That game could dictate the whole group. If it's 0-0, the group is open but if someone loses they have a very good chance of going out because Ukraine will beat one of the two, you would say, and Sweden are a hard team to beat.'
