ZINEDINE ZIDANE (2000)
Another golden tournament for the French was settled by a golden goal by David Trezeguet.
But having won the World Cup two years earlier, the showpiece in Holland and Belgium provided the stage for playmaker Zidane to cement his claim as the best of his era.
Echoing the triumph of Platini 16 years before, Zidane struck an extra-time winner against Portugal in an ill-tempered semi-final — this time from the penalty spot.
Zidane turned 30 nine days before the final and received a late birthday present from UEFA by being named player of the tournament.
POINT TO PROVE ... Zinedine Zidane was looking to establish himself as world's top player
