MICHEL PLATINI (1984)
THE Frenchman may now be better known as the controversial president of UEFA but nobody has dominated a major tournament as he did in 1984.
The stylish midfielder crashed in a remarkable NINE goals in five games as he skippered his country to success on home soil.
The 29-year-old was the pick of a famed midfield quartet of Luis Fernández, Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana.
And after TWO hat-tricks in the group stage, Platini saw off Portugal in the semi with a last-minute winner in extra-time.
The Parc des Princes was the setting for the final and again Platini delivered when a free-kick slipped through the grasp of the hapless Spanish keeper Luis Arconada.
