United ace Smalling hands first Euro injury KO fear to new England boss Hodgson
Posted Tuesday, May 08, 2012 by Dailymail

Manchester United's England defender Chris Smalling has suffered a  Euro 2012 scare after learning his groin injury is worse than first thought.

Smalling was believed to be fine despite limping through the closing stages of United's 2-0 win over Swansea on Sunday, but will now miss United's final Barclays Premier League game at Sunderland.

The way his injury responds to treatment  over the next two or three days will determine whether new England manager Roy Hodgson has cause to worry about the  22-year-old's fitness.

There was better news for Rio Ferdinand, who also suffered soreness in the groin against Swansea. The 33-year-old trained on Monday and is available for the last game of the season on Sunday.
