Waiting game! Eriksson urges FA to delay appointing England's manager
Posted Tuesday, March 06, 2012 by Dailymail

Sven Goran Eriksson has advised the FA to delay naming a new England manager until after the European Championships.

The former England boss, who was sacked as Leicester manager in October, said: 'It is not long to prepare. If we are talking about Harry Redknapp he will be fully busy with Tottenham until the end of the season trying to be second or third, playing Champions League football.

'If Harry takes it at the end of the season to take them into the Euros, it is not the perfect situation for him because of the time.

No rush: The former England boss has urged the FA to show caution

'If he takes the job it would be better, in my opinion, that he takes it after the Euros, then he has two years building up to the World Cup.'

There is an unspoken suggestion that flopping in Poland and Ukraine could also create a knee-jerk negative reaction to Redknapp or whoever becomes manager.

If the FA heed Eriksson's words, which were aired with an undisguised affection for his former employers, that leaves Stuart Pearce as the logical interim choice, perhaps with an older head alongside him.

'Me?' laughs Eriksson, who was in London on his way back to his native Sweden following a fleeting business trip.

'I would take it tomorrow so take me tomorrow! But it will not happen. That would be considered among the Press as going backwards.'
