England Under 21 boss Stuart Pearce is in temporary charge and will name his squad on Thursday for a friendly against Holland at Wembley on February 29.
The FA have not ruled out the idea that someone like Redknapp could take control for this summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine and then return to his club.
This would leave England to face the prospect of four different managers in six months, but it could be considered if it satisfies the clamour among fans, players and media for Redknapp.
