Farewell: Shane Williams ended his glittering Test career with a try... but Wales lost again
Paris might not be your answer, Kolo
There is a reason Kolo Toure does not regularly make the first team at Manchester City. He is not as good as Vincent Kompany, the club captain, and has fallen behind Joleon Lescott due to a prolonged absence through suspension.
This was caused by a failed drugs test. Toure's explanation, that he took diet pills belonging to his wife without checking the contents, might also give a clue to City's change of attitude. A professional athlete who feels unable to keep his weight under control without chemical assistance would concern any manager.
Now Toure is hinting at a January move to Paris Saint-Germain. 'I want to play matches, and if things don't progress I'll ask myself questions,' he says. And who knows what answers he will get, considering the level of self-awareness over his current predicament?
Good riddance
The good news is Joao Havelange, former president of FIFA, has resigned from the International Olympic Committee over allegations he accepted £6million in bribes. The bad news is Havelange is 95. So he got away with it. We must make sure he is the last.
Hot air
Joey Barton's spat with his former employers at Newcastle United was reignited this week. A round of claim and counter-claim ended with him challenging managing director Derek Llambias to take a lie-detector test, live on television. Barton's view of his significance in the wider world is somewhat misguided. Frost/Nixon this ain't.
