So, what is Fabio doing in Russia? England boss Capello says he's only there to watch the ballet

Fabio Capello was in Moscow on Friday night, fuelling speculation in Russia that he may join super-rich club Anzhi after his contract ends as England manager.

The 65-year-old said he was on a cultural trip — he watched the ballet Sleeping Beauty at the Bolshoi — but Russian newspapers suggested the Italian was in the capital to meet Anzhi’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov.

‘I can’t give interviews,’ said Capello when approached in the lobby of the Hotel Baltschug. ‘I’ve come to Moscow only to visit the Bolshoi Theatre. That’s why I’m here. No other reason.’

The England manager has said he will leave the FA after next summer’s European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, meaning he is allowed to talk to future employers. However, his lawyer son, Pierfilippo, reiterated that the ballet was the only reason for the trip.

He received an invitation to go and, as you know, my father is passionate about the arts,’ he told Sportsmail. ‘If he was meeting with a football club I would expect to be there and I am in England.’
