Liverpool keeper Reina is unimpressed with England quitters

Spain's understudy goalkeeper Pepe Reina has hit out at players who retire from international football early because they cannot accept being a member of the squad.

Reina, who won a World Cup winner's medal in 2010 without making an appearance, is hoping to win his 23rd cap against England at Wembley on Saturday if first-choice Iker Casillas of Real Madrid is rested.

Hitting out: Pepe Reina says the attitude of some English players is wrong

Reina has travelled thousands of miles for his country without much hope of playing and does not see why England goalkeepers Ben Foster and Paul Robinson, who have both made themselves unavailable, should not have the same attitude.

The 29-year-old Liverpool goalkeeper said: 'I can't understand why keepers retire early from international football because they don't feel they will have the chance to play too often.

'Just being in the national squad for any country is an honour and there is always pleasure to be taken from being involved in the best players from your country.
