Exciting talent: Andy Carroll (centre) should have a bright England future
Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley are two more who possess enormous potential. According to Ferdinand, Welbeck has the ability to be the complete centre forward and the perfect foil to Wayne Rooney.
At this stage, nobody is getting too excited and rightly so. England have too often promised much and delivered so, so little, and Euro 2012 should certainly be approached with low expectations, particularly when Spain, Holland and Germany are as strong as they are.
But this is not the debate. The debate is what might be best for England come the start of next season, and which manager will be best equipped to lead the national team to Brazil.
By then, Capello would have spent more than four years in charge and by then he might just have shown that he has learned from the mistakes of his more recent past and put those lessons to good use.
