Capello put pride on the agenda last week and his players have responded.

Ashley Young, in an interview with Sky Sports, said: 'It's a massive honour to pull on an England shirt and have that badge on your chest. Every player wants to show how proud they are to wear the shirt.'

Gary Cahill has an Irish father but rejected the chance to play for the Republic of Ireland in order to follow his heart. 'I did get asked, but it's something that's in your blood,' said the Bolton central defender.

'My Dad's fully Irish but I'm English and it would feel strange if I pulled on any other shirt. Even if I'd never played for England, I wouldn't regret my decision.'
