Cleverley in line for England debut as Lampard joins Wilshere and Carrick on sidelines
'Tom's done really well for us,' said United and now England colleague Ashley Young yesterday.

'Yesterday's game showed how confident he is. He came on and imposed himself. He has a winning mentality. He is only 21 but has the confidence to go out and play.'

Capello, meanwhile, has made it clear to Premier League managers he will not be bullied when it comes to selection.

He responded to public pressure from Arsene Wenger to omit Wilshere from his squad by ordering the player to report on Sunday night, releasing him only once the FA's medical staff had decided for themselves that the Arsenal midfielder had an ankle injury.

That has been standard practice since Capello became manager, the Italian once asking Gerrard to travel from Liverpool before then agreeing with Anfield staff that he was unfit to face Germany.

But Capello is determined to make his last season in the job a successful one and is in no mood to be pushed around by managers concerned only with the ambitions of their clubs.

The FA have already been extremely understanding when it comes to Wilshere this summer, agreeing with Wenger that it would not be prudent to take the 19-year-old to the European Under 21 Championships when he was suffering from fatigue.

But Wenger adopted an aggressive stance over the weekend, at one stage saying: 'They can include him as much as they want. He will not play.'

Wilshere reported to the team hotel and was keen to play but the ankle injury, sustained nine days ago in a pre-season friendly for Arsenal, was a problem and by lunchtime he had been sent back to his club.

Another United player, Danny Welbeck, hopes to recover from an ankle injury in time for tomorrow night. He missed training yesterday along with al l the players involved in matches on Sunday, leaving just today for Capello to prepare properly for Holland.
