Cleverley in line for England debut as Lampard joins Wilshere and Carrick on sidelines

Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley is lined up for a shock England debut against Holland on Wednesday night after Fabio Capello was left staring at a midfield injury crisis.

Jack Wilshere and Michael Carrick were sent back to their clubs after being assessed by FA medical staff and last night Frank Lampard left the team hotel with fiancee Christine Bleakley because he has flu symptoms and was ruled out of the game.

Rise to fame: Cleverley has been called up to the England squad

Steven Gerrard was already missing with a groin problem, leaving Capello to pick two central midfielders from Scott Parker, Gareth Barry, James Milner and Cleverley, who made his first senior appearance for United in the FA Community Shield win over Manchester City only on Sunday.

The England manager is sure to go with experience at the start of the game against the beaten finalists from last year's World Cup, if it goes ahead.

But Cleverley, having been called into the squad only yesterday, is likely to feature in the game at some time.
