When that will be, however, depends entirely on tomorrow night’s clash against the Czech Republic in Viborg.
Only a win will secure England a place in the last four but Pearce is refusing to panic and is confident — even after two lacklustre displays — of getting through.
‘I spoke with the chairman just before I left and haven’t had the chance to see him again since but, yes, I enjoy this job,’ said Pearce.
‘If I was given an opportunity to manage an Olympic team, the answer would be “yes”. It would be a fantastic opportunity. The Olympics are approaching very quickly and whoever’s the manager will need prep time. I’d imagine it’ll be ratified in the next month but that’s for another day.
‘Everyone has got their tails up and we are all looking forward to this game. We knew this would be a strong group and go right to the last game. We know we will have to be on the front foot.’
