England 2 Switzerland 2: Young rescues point to save Capello's blushes
Clattered: Jack Wilshere (left) is fouled by Johan Djourou inside the area

'I had to change something,' said Capello. 'I needed some players that attack the spaces, some players that are faster.'

He meant Young, who contributed much, though it rather begged the question as to why he had not started the game, as opposed to the workmanlike James Milner and the largely anonymous Theo Walcott.

That said, Capello could be thankful for his point. Although he refused to blame Joe Hart, the goalkeeper's performance was dreadful. Twice in three minutes he was found out by Tranquillo Barnetta free-kicks.

The first, on 32 minutes from 40 yards out and curled teasingly goalwards, tempted Rio Ferdinand to reach for a header he could not meet. Hart stood flat-footed, reacting belatedly as the ball bounced across him and dribbled into the net.
