Proenca named final referee - Webb overlooked as Portuguese official gets the nod
Pedro Proenca: To referee Sunday's Euro 2012 final between Spain and Italy

Pedro Proenca of Portugal has been chosen to referee the Euro 2012 final between Spain and Italy on Sunday.

The 41-year-old took charge of the UEFA Champions League final six weeks ago when Chelsea overcame Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

He has further enhanced his reputation at this summer's international tournament and will now officiate in Kiev at the weekend.

Proenca has already refereed both finalists in the tournament, in Spain's 4-0 victory over Republic of Ireland and Italy's quarter-final win against England.

He also refereed Sweden's 2-0 win against France and has not shown a red card or awarded a penalty so far in the competition.

England's Howard Webb had been tipped to get the nod, having refereed the 2010 World Cup final, but his hopes have now been dashed.
