How they fared at Euro 2012
EUR ALL RIGHT ... Joe Hart had a steady tournament for England

JOE HART

FOUR solid performances but, sadly, couldn’t save a penalty against Italy.

He looked the part and is destined to become one of the best keepers in the world. Would surely help if Roy Hodgson instructed him to throw the ball out instead of going for long, hit-and-hope clearances that so often meant England lost possession.

GLEN JOHNSON

NO question about his attacking philosophy — he always throws down the gauntlet going forward and is one of the world’s most attacking full-backs.

He also made a series of fabulously well-timed tackles when they really mattered. Against that, he lost or gave the ball away too often and lacked positional sense.

ASHLEY COLE

PLAYS better for Chelsea — but only just. England spend too much time chasing the ball for him to perform at full throttle and so make an even bigger impact.

Tackling was exemplary and he emerged as one of England’s classiest players. Will regret not putting his foot through the ball for the penalty as long as he lives.

JOHN TERRY

THREW himself into everything and marshalled the defence superbly. Unselfish, as always, and continually put England’s cause before his safety.

A true warrior who justified his selection over Rio Ferdinand. But he does lack a touch of pace and isn’t getting any younger. Could be the end of his international career.

JOLEON LESCOTT

NO doubt about it. The Manchester City centre-back is one of the most improved players in the world over the last year.

Looked the part alongside Terry and had the joy of scoring in the opening 1-1 draw with France. Competition is fierce in this department but Lescott deserves the chance to tighten his grip on his place.
