Ferdinand expressed his belief that Gerrard and England should be confident of a result going into Sunday night's quarter-final against Italy, although he did admit that they must be wary of the threat posed by Azzurri duo Andrea Pirlo and Mario Balotelli.

'The game against Italy won’t hold any fears for him (Gerrard). In fact, nobody should be afraid of them,' he said.
'We are good enough to beat Italy and should go into it with confidence.
