Steven Gerrard emphasised the burgeoning spirit within England’s Euro 2012 camp with a statement of devastating simplicity.

‘At times it feels like we’re unbreakable,’ said England’s captain. For Gerrard’s team, the contrast between this tournament and the World Cup two years ago could not be more marked.

England have broken free of the shackles that tormented their disastrous World Cup campaign in South Africa. Where there were rows in Rustenberg, there is great craic in Krakow, the Polish training base from where Roy Hodgson’s team are launching their bid for a place in the knockout stages of the European Championship.
