Remember the Capello Index, his player-rating system that got former England boss Fabio Capello into hot water before the 2010 World Cup? It’s back.

No player matched the 75.01 awarded to Alan Dzagoev in Russia’s 4-1 win over the Czechs on Friday, but the Capello Index did deem England to be better than France — just: the England average was 0.04 better than their French rivals.

England: Lescott 70.89, Parker 64.92, Terry 64.77, Gerrard 63.69, Cole 63.26, Oxlade-
Chamberlain 62.17, Hart 62.07, Milner 61.60, Johnson 61.04, Welbeck 60.75, Young 58.09. Average: 63.02
