Midfield defence: Diarra, Cabaye
On the day England lost Frank Lampard, France saw Yann M’Vila injured in the first minute against Serbia.
It looks as if M’Vila will not recover for Monday, though he is in the squad. That means the former Liverpool man Alou Diarra will appear alongside Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye.
Strong season: Yohan Cabaye played superbly for Newcastle
Diarra had an underwhelming time at Anfield — he never made a competitive appearance — but should not be underestimated. He has played in a World Cup final as a replacement for Patrick Vieira in 2006 and knows enough to play a solid role. He and Cabaye will anchor midfield.
