Following Frank Lampard's withdrawal, a second Chelsea FC player has pulled out of England's UEFA EURO 2012 squad through injury – a double fracture of the jaw ending Gary Cahill's hopes.
Gary Cahill is out of EURO
England have suffered another injury blow after Gary Cahill was forced to withdraw from their UEFA EURO 2012 squad because of a fractured jaw.
The 26-year-old, who recently won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea FC, sustained the injury when colliding with England goalkeeper Joe Hart during last night's 1-0 friendly victory against Belgium at Wembley.
An FA statement said: "The Chelsea defender has two fractures of his jaw, one either side. The England medical team have been in close contact overnight with Cahill's club doctors who will treat him moving forward. Liverpool defender Martin Kelly will be called into the squad – subject to agreement from UEFA."
Kelly, 22, made his international debut during last weekend's 1-0 friendly defeat of Norway on Oslo. He has played 24 Premier League games for Liverpool FC.
There was some good news for manager Roy Hodgson – who had previously lost the services of Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry to injury – as John Terry was given the all-clear following a scan on a tight hamstring.
