Gerrard backs Henderson to fulfill potential at Euros and fill void left by Lampard and Barry

Jordan Henderson has joined up with England as manager Roy Hodgson put the squad through their paces ahead of Saturday's friendly clash with Belgium at Wembley.

Henderson was called up after a scan on Frank Lampard's thigh injury confirmed the Chelsea midfielder would miss Euro 2012, and Steven Gerrard believes he's the man for the job.

Liverpool's Henderson has struggled to live up to his billing as  £20million player since swapping Sunderland for Anfield last summer.

But the 21-year-old, who made his full international debut in November 2010 and won only his second cap as a substitute against Norway last Saturday, looked lively in his first training session.

Hodgson was already without Gareth Barry when Lampard pulled up in training and Jack Wilshere remains a long-term absentee.

Scott Parker was also giving cause for concern in the midfield but Hodgson said he expects the Tottenham player to be fully over his achilles problem in time for the start of the tournament.
