Fabiański ruled out of Poland squad

Łukasz Fabiański has been released from Poland's UEFA EURO 2012 squad

Goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański has been ruled out of UEFA EURO 2012 with a shoulder injury, prompting Poland to call upon Grzegorz Sandomierski to take the Arsenal FC man's place in the squad.

Capped 21 times by his country, Fabiański was injured during training on Thursday. He was sent for tests in a hospital in Innsbruck on Friday, but after Saturday's 1-0 friendly win against Slovakia, Poland's director of national team football Tomasz Rząsa confirmed that the 27-year-old will not be fit to play in the finals.

"What can I say?" said Fabiański. "I picked up the same injury in very similar circumstances the first time at Arsenal [in January 2011]. It is the same shoulder. I will undergo some more medical tests next week and hope to hear some good news. I am only hoping that surgery won't be necessary."

KRC Genk goalkeeper Sandomierski is currently on holiday in Tenerife but will fly back to join up with the squad in the coming days. UEFA EURO 2012 co-hosts Poland commence their Group A bid against Greece on 8 June and face Russia four days later before tackling the Czech Republic on 16 June.
