Admir Mehmedi has revealed Switzerland's desire to end their 56-year winless run against Germany was behind the nation's 5-3 victory over Joachim Low's men on Saturday.
The Swiss pulled off one of the surprise international results of the year to dent Die Mannschaft's preparations for Euro 2012, which begins in a fortnight.
Ottmar Hitzfeld's side failed to qualify for the event, which is to be held in Poland and Ukraine, yet Mehmedi was over the moon with his goal and Switzerland's win over the giants of Europe.
"We knew that before the match [that Switzerland had not beaten Germany in 56 years]. That’s why we were so motivated going into this game," he told Goal.com after the match.
"The goal is a beautiful experience for me. For our young team the win is a step in the right direction."
Another of the nation's bright young players, Granit Xhaka, also shared a few words over the victory.
"Our distinctive feature today was that we never lost our winning spirit," he added.
The Swiss have another friendly on Wednesday, when they come up against Romania, another side who failed to qualify for Euro 2012.
