Headache for Hodgson as Welbeck continues to struggle with ankle injury
In contention: Carroll (centre) could start against Norway

Brooking thinks approaching a tournament without the usual ‘weight of expectation’ could be a positive, but said he believes England’s priority should be to play entertaining football.

Sir Trevor said: ‘Roy’s said he would like to get out of a difficult group, but I’d like to come away from a tournament feeling the lads have done themselves justice by playing well and everyone at home has enjoyed watching it.

‘If we get a little bit of momentum, who knows, but we are going into the tournament with low expectations. We have got to be a bit realistic. For once the expectations are not great because countries like Spain,  Germany and Holland are more favoured than ourselves.’
