Manchester United's Danny Welbeck is confident he can step up for England at Euro 2012.

Alongside fellow Englishman Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United striking duo have 36 goals between them. This impressive haul has resulted in both Welbeck and Rooney earning a call-up to manager Roy Hodgson's squad for the upcoming European Championships.

The more experienced Rooney will miss the first two games of Euro 2012 because of a ban inflicted for his kick on Miodrag Dzudovic during England's qualifier against Montenegro. While Hodgson has yet to reveal who will take Rooney's place upfront, Welbeck in assured in his abilities to perform if he is chosen. The striker is proud to be part of the senior team set-up, an achievement he considers a testament to what he is capable of.

"It’s a massive blow that Wayne is not available for the first two games. If I’m called upon to replace him it will be a real challenge, but I’ll take it in my stride," Welbeck said to The Sun.

"I was playing for England Under-16s when I was only 14. I was only a teenager when I first broke into United’s first team and when I played in my first cup final. So I have already proved I can step up and meet a challenge."

Euro 2012 will be Welbeck's first major international tournament, but the Red Devil believes he is mentally prepared for the competition, thanks to some sound advice from one of his coaches.

"I’m the sort who believes if you are good enough, you are old enough. And I won’t be worried or nervous about playing for England in the Euros. It might sound odd but I will try and treat it as just another game, like the hundreds of other games I have played," Welbeck shared.

"United’s youth-team coach Paul McGuinness taught me that valuable lesson a long time ago. He was always telling me, ‘Play the game, not the occasion’ and that’s been brilliant advice. So that’s exactly what I’ll be aiming to do for England in the finals."
