AOC glad for Walcott company

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is glad to have club team-mate Theo Walcott with him in the England's squad for Euro 2012.

The inclusion of Oxlade-Chamberlain in Roy Hodgson's squad for the upcoming European Championships came as a shock to many, as the Arsenal winger has never made an appearance for the senior team. While he admits the opportunity is a dream come true, the Gunner is hoping he will not be overawed by the more experienced internationals around him.

"To be named in the squad, straight away you think of everyone else there. I have been watching the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and John Terry for a number of years on TV and also playing for England," Oxlade-Chamberlain said to the club's official website.

"That only seems like yesterday [Wednesday] and now I’m going to be going with them, it is a bit daunting but I can’t wait."

Oxlade-Chamberlain's situation is reminiscent of Walcott's when the then 16-year old was called up by Sven Goran Eriksson for the 2006 World Cup. As such, Oxlade-Chamberlain is glad he can look up to someone who has walked this path.

"It is massive to have Theo in the squad as well, straight away, I thought about how good it would be having Theo there, because I have a mate! I get on well with Theo and when I first came to Arsenal he took me under his wing to help me out," he shared.

"I know Theo and I know that he went to a World Cup at 16 and enjoyed it. That obviously gives me inspiration and encouragement and I’m really looking forward to it."
