Holt: I’ve proved I’m good enough for England

Norwich City striker Grant Holt has told talkSPORT that he thinks he’s done enough this season to earn himself a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad.

The 31-year-old has been in impressive form throughout the Canaries’ first season back in the Premier League netting 14 goals, making him the second highest English goalscorer in the division behind Wayne Rooney.

In his three years at Carrow Road, the robust centre forward has hit the back of the 59 net times as they’ve risen up from League One.

And he insists that he has finally proven himself at the top level of English football and that makes him worthy of a place on the plane to Poland and Ukraine with Roy Hodgson’s 23-man group.

He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “If it goes on form and goes on goals over the last season then I won’t be far off. I think I’ve done enough. I think if anyone was there watching me at the Emirates at the weekend, the way the team played and myself personally, then I won’t be far off.

“People keep saying that I haven’t done it at the highest level. Can they name me a better league than the English Premier League to play against the best defenders in the world, I don’t know one.

“There has been a lot of talk, there’s a lot of people speculating and a lot of people asking me about it but it’s up to Roy who he picks.”
