PSV Eindhoven have announced the appointment of Russia coach Dick Advocaat, who will rejoin the Eredivisie side from 1 July on a 12-month deal.

The 64-year-old confirmed last week he would not renew his current contract with Russia, which expires after UEFA EURO 2012. Advocaat returns to his native Netherlands to succeed PSV's caretaker coach Phillip Cocu, who replaced the sacked Fred Rutten in March.

"We were eager to sign a top coach and Dick Advocaat was enthusiastic about PSV," said the Eindhoven club's technical manager Marcel Brands. "His choice of PSV, despite very lucrative offers from elsewhere, has strengthened our faith in the partnership. He knows the club from his earlier time here and sees a lot of potential in the squad. He's looking forward to working with a number of young assistants who also played under him with success at PSV."

Advocaat was previously in charge of PSV between 1995 and 1998, winning the Dutch Cup in 1996 and the league title the following year. He left for Rangers FC in 1998, taking over the Netherlands national team for a second stint four years later, and subsequently had spells in a number of countries, most notably at FC Zenit St Petersburg where he won the 2008 UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup before joining Russia two years ago.
