Terry: Capello has my respect for backing me through captaincy row
Posted Wednesday, March 14, 2012 by Dailymail

John Terry spoke of his admiration for Fabio Capello for the first time since the Italian quit as England manager on Tuesday night.

Capello walked out of his job last month after the FA decided to strip Terry of the captaincy against his wishes.

'Quite clearly, Fabio backed me,' said Terry. 'That comes from a relationship that was built up between myself and him.

Respect: Terry has admitted his admiration for Capello

'I stood up for him on the football pitch and he stood up for me off the pitch. I respect that from him, I respect him as a man and for what he did for me. Complete respect both ways.'

The FA did not want Terry to captain England at the European Championship due to his scheduled court appearance in July to answer accusations of racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand during a Barclays Premier League game in October. Terry denies the charge.
