Harry Redknapp has reacted angrily to claims that him being touted as the next England manager has had a detrimental effect on Tottenham’s season.
Since Redknapp was installed as the overwhelming favourite to replace Fabio Capello, Tottenham have faltered and Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Everton has plunged their hopes of securing a top three finish into doubt.
Though Redknapp initially made light of a third consecutive Barclays Premier League defeat saying, with his tongue firmly in his cheek, that he was “suicidal, really”, when the thorny issue of England was broached, there was a completely different reaction.

‘Absolute rubbish,’ he said, when asked if the speculation had been disruptive. ‘Absolute rubbish.
How can it destabilise the team when they play like they did and keep on going? They haven’t just gone “the manager is leaving we aren’t bothered any more”.
