The one-time England striker, however, has made sure his partner does not go without spoiling today, showing his legion of Twitter followers how he has made up for his absence by showering her with presents.

Cole posted a hilarious picture from his kitchen holding a tray of goodies with a romantic message for his sweetheart, which read: 'Happy Valentines babes'.

But his tongue-in-cheek offering is unlikely to go down too well after he posted the accompanying message: 'Here I Got Your Present "Happy Valentines Babes" I Love You ahahahahahahahahahhaha' [sic]
