Scholes: I’d make England return
CAN'T HIDE HIS THREE LION EYES ... Scholes could make sensational return for England

PAUL SCHOLES will seriously consider a return to international football — EIGHT years after his last England game.
Scholes, 37, came out of retirement last month to help Manchester United's push for a 20th League title.

Now prospective new England boss Harry Redknapp has said he would love to have the midfield veteran in his squad if he took over.

The United star, who quit last May after the Champions League final loss to Barcelona, has admitted regretting not answering Fabio Capello's call to the 2010 World Cup.

Now he has a last chance to play in a major tournament, he could find the lure of Euro 2012 too good to turn down.

Scholes was helping coach United's reserves before he returned to first-team action in the 3-2 FA Cup win at Manchester City on January 8.

His performances since have turned the clock back, with his quality of passing and ability to set the tempo still in evidence. England have always missed his creativity since he quit after the quarter-final defeat to Portugal on penalties at Euro 2004.

At the time, he was fed up for a number of reasons — one he was being played out of position out wide to accommodate Frank Lampard and Steve Gerrard in the middle.

And he had also grown tired of the travelling on top of his European and pre-season tour duties with United.

Scholes also later admitted he felt that there was a selfishness among players at international level to make names for themselves rather than play for the team.

But when Capello offered him a ticket to South Africa he admits he made a mistake, saying: "I wish I had gone. I did feel as though I had made the wrong decision."

Redknapp is a huge Scholes fan and would do everything to persuade him to come back. He said: "Look at Paul Scholes. Let's be honest, you would love to have him at the European Championships. He's that good."

Scholes' boss ALEX FERGUSON is equally impressed with his side after the highly-charged 2-1 win over Liverpool.

And he has warned league leaders Manchester City his team has the courage and character to beat them to the title.

Two points separate the sides with another derby to come on April 28.

Fergie said: "Courage and determination are qualities that make the difference in a league packed with top-class players.

"But when push comes to shove, I believe that the character in our team gives us an excellent chance of defending our title.

"Manchester United's never-say-die approach is woven into the fabric of the club's history. I wonder at times exactly how long we can go on picking ourselves up.

"But it must be in the United genes because there is no sign of this invaluable quality fading."
