Fabio tells England strikers: Show me you can fill Rooney's boots

Terry spoke of the support he had received but steered clear of referring to the allegation. In fairness to Capello, it is not a situation of his making and the England manager just wants to get the ball out again and continue with his experiments.

Capello has precious little time left to do so before the European Championship. After the game against Sweden there will be just three more friendlies, starting with Holland in February and the two games in the summer that could well include a trip to Dublin.

But Capello wants to focus more on the attack, and what he thinks could be his forward line in the absence of the suspended Wayne Rooney at the start of Euro 2012.

If Danny Welbeck can overcome a slight problem with a thigh muscle, Capello will partner the young Manchester United striker with Bobby Zamora.

'If he is 100 per cent he will play,' said Capello of Welbeck before revealing his intention to use Daniel Sturridge as a substitute.

Zamora and Welbeck would be an untried partnership between two players who have amassed just four caps between them, Zamora having played just once for England, as a substitute against Hungary at the start of last season.
