Come to Dublin! Despite riot in 1995, England are asked to play Ireland friendly

FAI officials are confident they will have stringent security measures in place to cope with an influx of England fans, whose reputation has improved greatly since the aborted match in 1995.

After Ireland’s David Kelly scored to give them a 1-0 lead, England fans tore up seats and forced a  12-minute delay as the players left the field. The game was abandoned after pleas from managers Jack Charlton and Terry Venables were ignored.
