England are to appeal against Wayne Rooney’s Euro ban – using evidence provided by the Daily Star to back their case.

Boss Fabio Capello yesterday revealed he definitely wants to take Rooney to Euro 2012, and he has persuaded the FA to try to get UEFA to reduce the striker's three-match ban.

Rooney's hopes received a boost when Miodrag Dzudovic - the player he kicked to get him- self a red card in Montenegro – told Starsport he felt the punishment was harsh.

Dzudovic revealed Rooney had apologised for his actions and the 32-year-old centre-back felt the Manchester United star had acted in the heat of the moment.

Most importantly, he promised to speak up for Rooney at an appeal. UEFA confirmed they would be happy to hear the centre-back’s testimony.

Starsport forwarded emails from Dzudovic in which he backs Rooney to the FA’s regulation department, as well as the player’s contact details.

Last night a source close to Capello said: “The FA will ap- peal against the ban and the information the Daily Star provided has been very useful.”

UEFA stated on Monday their appeals body had often considered testimony from an aggrieved player speaking up for the opponent whose actions led to a ban.

The FA fears UEFA could increase Rooney’s ban – which, as it stands, keeps him out of the group games in Poland and Ukraine.

But with Dzudovic being so supportive, that now seems far-fetched, even though UEFA did describe Rooney’s kick during the 2-2 draw 13 days ago as an assault.

Meanwhile, Capello has all but confirmed he is taking Rooney to Euro 2012 what- ever the outcome, and that he wants the seemingly out- of-favour Rio Ferdinand on the plane too.

John Terry and Scott Parker were also name-checked as the four senior players who can almost be pencilled in to make the trip next summer.

Capello also believes ‘Club Man United’ could be the best way for England to land glory next summer.
The Italian fells a national team has to be packed with players from one club.

Speaking at an event at Wembley Stadium for Club Wembley, Capello added: “National teams which won the titles always have six or seven players from the same club.

“In Spain, seven players came from Barcelona and four from Real Madrid.

“Italy, when they won the world Cup in Germany, they had six or seven players from Juventus.

“Now, I think Germany have six or seven players from Bayern Munich.”
