All smiles: John Terry and Rooney look relaxed in Podgorica
Just as it is unlikely to matter too much whether they hide themselves away in a Polish forest or plant themselves in the middle of Warsaw next summer.
With the behaviour of the England rugby team under scrutiny, Capello was asked if he would prepare for the Euros the way Martin Johnson and his squad appear to be preparing for their World Cup matches. Capello said he did not want to talk about the Euros. ‘Tomorrow first. I am superstitious.’
But he had an interesting take on dwarf tossing, bungee jumping and womanising as well as those big burly rugby chaps.
‘I know very well the rugby players,’ he said. ‘I was involved for two years with rugby players at Milan. After the game, that’s really strange. I remember that really well. You know better than me what they do!’
Working with the rugby team was one of his first jobs when he joined the coaching staff at AC Milan.
But in Capello’s opinion what happens off the pitch is of no great significance if the team remain successful. According to him you don’t sin when you’re winning.
‘When you win everything is good,’ he said. ‘It is the right choice, the perfect choice. If you drink, or go with women. Everything is good if you win. When you lose, it’s a disaster. The results are the most important thing.
‘I know the Dutch stayed together from May 10 ahead of the last World Cup, staying longer together than we did. And you saw what happened: they finished second and had a chance to win the final.’
