Rapport: Shearer's career hit the heights under Dalglish

Asked to identify Capello's successor, Shearer nominated Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp. But he is keen to have another crack at management himself.

'I have applied for one or two jobs,' he said. 'I thought I had one but didn't get it. I was practically offered another but it wasn't to be. I enjoyed the experience at Newcastle so much. It was only for eight weeks but I got an idea of how things are run. You live it, you breathe it, you sleep it. I want more of it.'
