BARCELONA, Spain (AP)—Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has sought to downplay expectations by suggesting the Spanish champions may finish the season without silverware.
Barcelona began its Champions League defense by allowing a late equalizer in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against AC Milan, which came after a disappointing draw in the league at Real Sociedad.
Guardiola says he doesn’t know how morale is among the players but that “I never promised any titles this year … and it would be normal if we didn’t win anything.”
Barcelona won its 12th major trophy under the Catalan coach with August’s Spanish Supercup victory over Real Madrid but has struggled with injuries since.
