Not that Capello seemed terribly happy. Until Young scored he appeared to be on the verge of another tirade, as frustrated as much by negative Welsh tactics as he was by England's failure to negate them. Rooney was also becoming anxious, screaming at his colleagues at one stage for failing to give chase when a clearance was launched into the Welsh half.

There was a more promising moment when Young delivered a cross that Downing met with a volley, albeit one that was well off-target.
But this was proving far more difficult for England than the encounter between these two sides in Cardiff, and something of a concern for Capello.
